How to Create Your Perfect Wedding Mood Board

During the early stages of wedding planning, we often find ourselves flicking through bridal magazines, scouring Pinterest and blogs to gain some ideas and inspiration. While it’s great to have lots of ideas from early on, it’s bringing those ideas together to create a concise and cohesive style that can be the tricky part. This is where a wedding mood board is your first step.

A wedding mood board is a great way to visualize your ideas, to pull them together to create the focus for your big day. Here’s how to create your perfect wedding mood board…

Create a brief

When we think of a mood board we think first of visuals, but actually the first step is to consider the words that will lead the spirit and vision of your wedding day. Create your own brief before you start working on your mood board, by defining how you want to feel on the day, and how you want your décor and style to make your guests feel.

Sit down with your partner and get creative with your brief. Alongside thinking about obvious things like what time of year you’re getting married, think about what makes you happy, what defines you as a couple, how you like to spend your time together and what matters to you. The end result should be a series of words, ideas and emotions that you can shape your brief from.

Find inspiration

Be creative with where you look for your inspiration for your wedding day. Look beyond the wedding magazines and bridal blogs, draw inspiration from your everyday, your trips together, your local town, where you grew up. Look at things like your favourite item of clothing, the décor in your home, views you’ve felt inspired by, photos that bring back fond memories. Start to create your mood board using things that matter to you, that evoke emotions, and represent you as a couple.

Choose old school

When it comes to putting your board together, there’s nothing better than a physical board, instead of a digital board. In creating a visual board at home, you can take the time to get to know your board, passing it daily and considering all of the elements and how they work together. As the days go by, you might have felt you had nailed your mood board on day one, but a week later, something stands out to you and needs replacing, spending time with your board will help you get a true feel for it to help you create the perfect wedding day for you as a couple.

Top tip: Start by temporarily adding things to your board so that you can switch things up until you are completely happy.

A mood board is also a great way to communicate your ideas to your wedding planner and will help you ensure your day is completely unique. We include mood boards through the design process in your wedding, for more information on our wedding planning service click here.
